Robb was previously the Sr. Director of Product Management
and Vertical Market Development at iBEAM Broadcasting, the leading
streaming media network provider, where he was responsible for creating
the iBEAM eCommerce product suite enabling companies to monetize
their media. Robb worked with leading media companies such as Sony
Entertainment, MTV, Universal, ESPN, CBS, CNBC and many others providing
streaming and rich media advertising, syndication, Pay Per View
and Digital Rights Management solutions. Robb was part of the iBEAM
team members that were acquired by Williams/Vyvx where he worked
in the Emerging Technologies group.
Prior to iBEAM, Robb was the seventh employee at CyberSource
running marketing, product management, product development, and
business development- many times simultaneously - to build the company
from "10 guys above a barbershop" to the leading on-demand
commerce provider with over 200 employees and 500 customers. Robb
joined CyberSource in March 1996 when they were an Internet only
eTailer called software.net (later spun off and renamed Beyond.com).
He quickly built the software.net brand into the leading Internet
eTailer for software products, building relationships with leading
software vendors and working cross marketing deals to further promote
the software.net brand as the source for software.
Robb began his career in the catalog publishing and
database marketing business at Inmac. There he worked with the new
Director of Marketing to transition the company from its private
label and VAR based business model to a publishing model selling
advertising pages to leading brands. The first Inmac specific technology
only catalog was launched with top brands and quickly earned the
top networking product catalog from CatalogAge. In 1994 Robb worked
on a side project for the CEO to set up a website to test the concept
of Internet retailing and marketing. It was this experience that
got Robb excited about Internet marketing and he's been involved
in the industry ever since. Robb graduated from San Jose State University
with a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration with a concentration
in marketing.

OK, some of you have asked me what the heck physics has to do with marketing. We'll technically nothing but conceptually quite a lot. I came up with the term "Marketing Physics" when I was in college. It was a fun way to bridge the gap between my science interests and my business skills. Seriously, I love marketing because you can make this stuff up and spin it to what you want. here ya go-
Academic definition of Physics
-The study of motion, matter, energy, and force.
So what is Marketing Physics? Well, influenced by my scientist father and his colleagues, I define Marketing Physics as creating profit from the sales produced (energy) when the right balance (conditions) of promotion (force) is applied to customers (matter). It's all about controlled and measurable marketing.
Of course the other side of the equation requires a solid product that serves a need or desire. That's why I love product management. You get to own it from both sides. As they say, product management is like running your own business.
